Simplify the Shipping Process with Weight Based Packing without worrying about Product Dimensions using WooCommerce UPS Shipping Plugin

In this article, we will be covering the WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin and how using this plugin can handle shipping rate calculation based on the product weight.

With so many options, WooCommerce store owners can have a variety of products in their store. These products can be of any shape and size. Sometimes there are products where it is very difficult to provide the accurate dimensions. So, in those cases, store owners don’t really provide product dimensions. However, shipping, in general, is calculated based on the basis of the distance between the source and destination, as well as, the package weight and dimensions. Hence it becomes very important to handle the shipping for those products which do not have dimensions.

According to Sam, a WooCommerce store owner,”…I want the plugin to calculate the rates based on the billable weight of the package ONLY. As none of the products have dimensions, so I would prefer a method where charges will be calculated based on the total weight of the package instead of the dimensions like height, length, and breadth…Any help would be appreciated..!

Parcel Packing Methods

WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin supports three different parcel packing methods. These parcel packing methods help in creating packages for your orders. Using a parcel packing method, store owners can easily control how their products will be packed and how much will it cost to ship them. These packing methods are,

  • Pack Items Individually
  • Pack into Boxes with weight and dimensions
  • Weight-based packing

The image below shows that the different parcel packing methods that you can select in the plugin settings.

Using weight based packing, the products are packed in the box based on the weight only. Which means this method is totally independent of the product dimensions. As soon as the total weight is under the defined Max Weight, all the products will be packed in one box. Once the weight exceeds the maximum weight limit, another box will be selected for packing additional products.

Summary…

So in this article, we discussed the WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin and how using the plugin the WooCommerce store owners can easily pack and ship their products that do not have any dimensions. Using the Weight-based parcel packing method, the packages are created based on the product weight and it is completely independent of the product dimensions.
