How Majo Garn Ships Italian Yarn to 40+ Countries with PluginHive and FedEx

Some brands are built around convenience. Others are built around craft. Majo Garn is firmly the latter: a French yarn company that has spent years quietly earning the trust of knitters around the world, one carefully selected skein at a time.

Based in France and sourcing exclusively from Italian mills, Majo Garn was built on a conviction that is simple to state but harder to execute: that the yarns knitters work with should be genuinely exceptional in softness, in colour, in the way they feel in your hands from the first stitch to the last. It’s a brand that takes the craft seriously, and customers across more than 40 countries have taken notice.

Behind that global reach is a logistics operation that has had to be just as precise as the products themselves. This is the story of how Majo Garn got there and how PluginHive’s Multi-Carrier Shipping Label solution became a core part of how they ship.

Majo Garn: A Brand Built for the World, from the Very Beginning

Majo Garn was never a local business that expanded internationally. They built it to be international from day one.

Founder Wako Chapurlat built the brand around a direct-to-customer model, with the online store as its primary channel rather than a fallback. E-commerce helped the independent yarn brand reach knitters across borders and build a community without geographic limitations.

Alongside D2C, Majo Garn developed a network of yarn shops across different countries, giving customers the chance to discover and feel the products locally. This dual-channel approach has served the brand well.

France and Germany are its two largest markets, followed by the United States, while customers in more than 40 countries make up its global footprint.

What Makes Majo Garn Different

The yarn market has no shortage of options, but Majo Garn stands out through two things: fibre quality and a carefully curated colour palette.

Majo Garn makes every yarn in Italy from 100% natural fibres, carefully sourcing each material from the mill to the finished product. Many customers consider the yarns among the softest they have worked with.

The brand takes the same thoughtful approach to colour, offering a curated range of shades designed to work beautifully together. This gives Majo Garn a distinctive identity and keeps customers coming back for new collections.

The Shipping Challenge: Going Global, Staying Reliable

Shipping to 40+ countries from a single base in France is not a simple undertaking. International logistics brings with it a different level of complexity compared to domestic fulfilment, varying delivery expectations, customs requirements that differ by destination, the need for reliable tracking that customers in multiple time zones can follow, and the ever-present reality that when something goes wrong with an international shipment, resolving it quickly depends heavily on the carrier’s own support capability.

For Majo Garn, the carrier decision came after working with several different logistics providers over the years. The evaluation was always around the same core criteria: reliability, speed, tracking quality, international coverage, and the quality of customer service when issues arise. For a brand that takes pride in its products, the post-purchase experience matters enormously, from handling the parcel to delivering it to the customer.

FedEx emerged as the clear choice for Majo Garn’s international shipments. Fast delivery times, consistent performance across a wide range of destinations including Europe, North America, and Asia, strong tracking infrastructure, and, critically, a customer service operation that is actually reachable and helpful.

The Operational Problem: FedEx Ship Manager Wasn’t Keeping Up

Having the right carrier in place was one thing. The workflow around it was another matter entirely.

Before PluginHive, Majo Garn was using FedEx Ship Manager directly to create and manage shipments. For lower volumes, it was workable. But as the business grew and international orders, both direct-to-consumer and wholesale, increased in volume and complexity, the limitations of that approach became harder to absorb.

The process was slow. Every shipment required manual data entry that sat entirely outside of Shopify, meaning the fulfilment team was constantly moving between two systems.

The customs documentation layer made it even more demanding. Majo Garn ships to many different countries, each with its own customs requirements. Shipments to the US, for example, may require 10-digit tariff classifications, while other destinations work with 6-digit HS codes. Managing those country-specific requirements manually, shipment by shipment, was exactly the kind of detailed, error-prone work that a growing international business can least afford to spend its time on.

The team needed a solution that would bring FedEx label generation inside Shopify, handle customs documentation requirements with the right flexibility, and reduce the manual steps involved in preparing each international shipment.

Majo Garn Discovering PluginHive in the Shopify App Store

Wako Chapurlat found PluginHive’s Multi-Carrier Shipping Label App while searching the Shopify App Store for a shipping solution that could better support Majo Garn’s international logistics requirements and integrate directly with FedEx.

The app offered everything the team needed: FedEx integration built into the Shopify workflow, live rate calculation at checkout, label generation and fulfilment managed from within the same platform, and crucially, flexibility around customs documentation and HS code. That last capability was particularly important. The ability to configure country-specific tariff classifications within the app, without requiring manual cross-referencing for each shipment, addressed one of the most time-consuming parts of Majo Garn’s existing process.

The decision to move forward was straightforward. PluginHive offered a path to a faster, more integrated fulfillment workflow, one that could handle the real-world complexity of international shipping.

Onboarding: Michelin-Star Support, in Wako’s Own Words

The onboarding experience left an impression. Wako describes PluginHive’s customer service as “Michelin-star level,” and the detail behind that description matters.

From the very beginning, the setup process was guided by a member of the PluginHive team over a video call, walking Majo Garn through the integration with their Shopify store step by step. It wasn’t a self-service onboarding experience with a help document and a contact form. It was hands-on, personalised support from people who understood the product and took the time to get the configuration right for Majo Garn’s specific requirements.

What Wako valued equally was that this level of support didn’t end at onboarding. Whenever a question has come up since going live in February 2026, the PluginHive team has been quick to respond, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. For a small, independent brand managing a complex international shipping operation, that kind of reliable access to expert support isn’t a nice-to-have; it’s operationally essential.

The Impact: Faster, Simpler, Less Manual

The shift away from FedEx Ship Manager and into PluginHive’s Shopify-integrated workflow changed the daily fulfilment experience in ways that were immediately apparent.

Label creation became faster. The process of preparing a shipment pulling order details, generating the FedEx label, and handling the customs documentation now happens within Shopify rather than across two separate systems. The manual steps that used to sit between an order arriving and a label being printed have been reduced significantly, and the team can move through a day’s orders more quickly and more accurately.

For international shipments specifically, the improvement is most meaningful. The flexibility to handle different HS code requirements, built into the app rather than managed manually outside it, removed one of the most friction-heavy parts of the previous workflow. Teams can now handle customs documentation more efficiently within the same environment, instead of managing it manually for each shipment.

What’s Next: Automating Multi-Parcel Wholesale Orders

As with any growing business, there are always the next things to solve. For Majo Garn, the area they’d most like to see automated next is the handling of orders that require multiple parcels, particularly large wholesale orders to retail partners, which can sometimes need to be packed and shipped across several boxes.

Currently, the team uses Shopify’s split order function to indicate how an order has been divided, but the parcel details then need to be re-entered or verified manually within PluginHive when creating the shipping labels. The feature request is practical and specific: if PluginHive’s app could automatically retrieve the split order information from Shopify and reflect it in the Packing Summary, pre-populating the parcel details so the fulfilment team can see at a glance how each shipment has been divided, it would remove another meaningful layer of manual work from the wholesale fulfilment process.

It’s the kind of thoughtful feedback that reflects how seriously Majo Garn takes its shipping workflow and how much further they’re looking to take it.

For Shopify store owners managing international shipping across multiple destinations, particularly those dealing with the complexity of FedEx integrations and country-specific customs requirements, Majo Garn puts the experience plainly:

“PluginHive’s customer service is Michelin-star level. From the very beginning, the onboarding experience was excellent. A member of the team guided me through the setup over a video call and helped us integrate the app properly with our Shopify store. Whenever I have a question or need help, the team is quick to respond, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. As a small business, having access to reliable support makes a huge difference.”
