WooCommerce Measurement Price Calculator with Table Rate Shipping
With this article, we’ll show you how to use the WooCommerce Measurement Price Calculator plugin along with WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping Plugin.
WooCommerce Measurement Price Calculator plugin
The WooCommerce Measurement Price Calculator plugin is used by store owners who sell products that cannot or would not be sold in quantities of 1. This special plugin makes it easier for you to price such products and display accurate prices.
The Need to use WooCommerce Measurement Price Calculator along with the PluginHive Table Rate Shipping plugin
Every online business owner generally has different requirements when it comes to shipping and logistics. While most of them have a straightforward shipping scenario based on product weight or quantity, others might not be that simple.
Products such as cloth material, metallic wires, and lubricants cannot be sold in a conventional way and require special attention. For instance, customers buy cloth material based on dimensions and so, it’s impossible to have a fixed selling price. Similarly, in the case of metallic wires, these are sold based on the length of the wire. Hence, unlike other products, the quantitative aspect of a product is not applicable.
On the other hand, when it comes to online shipping, product weight is considered to be the standard for calculating shipping rates. This makes it very difficult for business owners to ship such products as there is no direct way to combine the two different standards of measurement.
Change WooCommerce Product Price based on its Measurements
Once you install the plugin and activate it, a new Measurement field is available on the product edit page. This field allows the store owners t choose the factor based on which the price of the product will be calculated. The store owners can choose from the following options shown in the image below.
After selecting the options, say Dimensions, the following options will become visible and based on your requirements you can easily configure the price for unit dimensions.
The following options will help in calculating the price and the weight of the product based on the factor that we have chosen in the above image.
- Pricing Unit
It is the unit of measurement for the factor that we selected. In this case, it is the meter for dimensions. Based on other factors such as Area, the units will also change to meter square.
- Calculated Price
Enabling this field will allow store owners to calculate the price of the product based on the factor. In this case, the price will be based on the length of the product.
- Calculated Weight
Once enabled, this option will calculate the weight of the product based on the length of the product selected by the customer.
Once these settings are done, the changes that will occur to the products page are shown in the following images.
Now that we have successfully simplified the price and weight calculation for the products, let us create some shipping rules for our products. But before that let us take a quick look at the WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping Pro plugin.
WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping Pro for Rate Calculation
WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping Pro is one of the best shipping rates calculators for WooCommerce. Using this plugin, WooCommerce store owners can easily configure shipping rules based on the following factors,
- Product Weight
- Product Quantity
- Cart Value/Price
- Shipping Classes
- Product Category
- Destination Address (Shipping Zones, Country, State, City, ZIP Codes, etc)
You can create shipping rules based on which the shipping rates will be calculated and displayed on the cart and checkout page. Since we have already configured the measurement of weight and the price of the product using the WooCommerce Measurement Price Calculator plugin, we can now create shipping rules based on the product weight.
Set up the WooCommerce Shipping Rates Calculator
Once all the measurements are configured at the product level using the WooCommerce Measurement Price Calculator plugin, now we can calculate shipping rates based on weight using WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping plugin. The shipping rules will be similar to the ones shown in the image below.
The below shipping rules clearly state the following shipping options will be visible to the customers on the cart page.
- Local Pickup – For product weight below 50 lbs.
- Standard Shipping (5-7 business days) – Charging $5 and $0.2 per lb up to 50 lbs.
- Express Shipping (2-3 days) – Charging $10 and $0.2 per lb up to 50 lbs.
- Guaranteed 1-Day Shipping – Charging a flat rate of $18.
Now, all we need to do is add a product to the cart and check how the rates are showing.
How does the WooCommerce Measurement Price Calculator look on the Product page?
Once we add the product to the cart page, we can easily see the difference on the product page itself. The following image shows the way the price is calculated on the product page.
Now let us take a quick look at the shipping rates on the WooCommerce cart page.
As you can clearly see, the shipping rates are calculated based on the shipping rules created by the WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping Pro plugin. However, let us see how the rates were actually calculated in this case.
Weight per Meter = 1.5 kgs
Length Selected = 20 meters
Total weight = 1.5 x 20 = 30 kgs
Hence, based on our shipping rules, the shipping rates for 30 kgs must be,
- Local Pickup
- Standard Shipping – $5 + 30 x $0.2 = $11
- Express Shipping – $10 + 30 x $0.2 = $16
- Guaranteed Delivery – $18
As you can see the shipping rates returned on the cart page are exactly the same as expected.
This article is about how easily you can calculate shipping rates for your products, especially the products which are not sold in quantities of 1. The mentioned products in this article and many others can be sold based on their measurement.
Using WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping plugin along with the WooCommerce Measurements Price Calculator, you can easily create shipping rules based on the calculated weight of the product. This calculated weight will be based on the length, area, or volume of the product.
