What is FedEx Saturday Delivery?

This simply implies product delivery on Saturdays. Saturday delivery is a special service provided by different carriers to deliver a package to a recipient on Saturday, rather than the usual business days of Monday-Friday.

FedEx offers Saturday delivery services. But, the shipping costs and time for these deliveries differ between various FedEx services. FedEx’s Saturday delivery services are provided to handle the increasing demand from online shoppers for immediate delivery.

FedEx Services that offer Saturday Delivery

FedEx is well known for its reliable shipping services as it provides some of the best available shipping services that include both domestic and international shipping. But, not all services offer a Saturday Delivery. As you can see in the image below, there are some services that don’t provide a Saturday delivery option.

You can see that the services like  FedEx Ground don’t deliver on Saturdays. If the delivery doesn’t happen by the end of Friday, the package delivery is automatically scheduled for Monday.

Provide accurate FedEx shipping estimation to the customers by enabling Saturday pickup

With the Shopify FedEx app, you can also provide accurate FedEx shipping estimation to customers by enabling Saturday Pickup.

Normally, if a customer orders on a Friday or a Saturday, the shipping is done only on the next working day, ie. Monday. But, if the Saturday pickup is enabled the merchant means that the shipping will be done on Saturdays as well if a customer orders on a Friday or Saturday. Also, the app displays the checkout rates and the shipping cost based on Saturday shipping.

For example, if a customer checkouts on 14th Aug’ 20, ie. Friday and the Saturday shipping is not enabled, the shipping will be done only on Monday and the delivery estimate is displayed as 18th Aug’ 20, ie. Tuesday, for FedEx First Overnight service.

This setup is to display the checkout rates for the customers based on the Shipment Cut Off time that you have setup. As mentioned above, if this is enabled, the merchant is letting FedEx know that the shipment will be sent on Saturdays as well.

Note:
Shipment Cut Off Time is the time beyond which the store does not allow orders to be placed for the day. These orders will be scheduled for the next working day.

Current Time is the time during which the customer tries to checkout.

To enable this, head to App settings --> General --> Enable Saturday Ship. You can also set up the Shipment Cut Off Time under this section.

How does this process work with the app?

If a customer tries to checkout, the app checks if the Saturday Ship is enabled or not.

If Saturday Ship is not enabled: The app checks the Shipment Cut off time. If the Shipment Cut off time is higher than the current time, rates for the present day will be displayed at checkout. If the Shipment Cut off time is lower than the current time, the rates for the next day will be displayed at checkout. (In the case of Friday, the rates for Monday will be displayed).

If Saturday Ship is enabled: The app checks the present day. If it is from Monday-Thursday, the process in the above step will be carried out.

If it is Friday, the app checks the Shipment Cut off time. If the Shipment Cut off time is higher than the current time, rates for Friday will be displayed at checkout. If the Shipment Cut off time is lower than the current time, rates for Saturday will be displayed.
If it is Saturday, the app checks the Shipment Cut off time. If the Shipment Cut off time is higher than the current time, rates for Saturday will be displayed at checkout. If the Shipment Cut off time is lower than the current time, rates for the next working day, ie. Monday will be displayed.
