How to Show/Hide UPS Negotiated Rates?

With UPS Shipping plugin, you can get the real-time rates directly from UPS to your store. Since the rates are fetched from the store owner’s UPS account, sometimes they have additional services enabled in their account. These features or services may impact the final rate that UPS Shipping plugin may get from UPS. Some of these services include UPS negotiated rates, tax on rates, etc.

These services need to be checked by the store owner and if availed, need to be enabled in the UPS Shipping plugin too. Otherwise, there would be a significant difference in the shipping rates returned by the plugin and the official UPS rates calculator.

One of the store owners had a business scenario where these services were involved. The store owner had the negotiated rates availed in his official UPS Account. But he didn’t want to show those shipping rates to his customers. He wanted his customers to pay the default real-time rates returned by the UPS only.

So let’s see how using UPS Shipping plugin he achieved the desired shipping solution for his online store.

Negotiated Rates with UPS Shipping plugin

According to UPS official website,

Negotiated Rates are the contract rates established with UPS and your UPS Account Representative. Enabling Negotiated Rates within your shipping or rating systems allows you to view the most current and accurate rates for your UPS account.

These rates can make a shipping service costlier or cheaper. Hence based on the store owner’s preference and their business cases, UPS Shipping plugin provides a simple solution to this issue.

UPS shipping plugin allows the store owners to either enable or disable the option to view the negotiated rates returned by UPS. The image below shows the option to enable UPS negotiated rates in the plugin’s settings.

Once this option is enabled, the customers will be able to see the negotiated shipping rates returned by UPS. Whereas if it is disabled, only the normal rates will be visible to the customers.

For your reference, here is a graphical representation of the change in the UPS Shipping rates, based on the UPS negotiated rates:

As it is clear from these images, UPS negotiated rates can affect the shipping rates and based on the business case, the store owners should enable /disable these rates.
