Integrate the FedEx SameDay City Account
To configure the account credentials, head to Settings -> Account -> Select FedEx SameDay City Account. Enter the Account Number and the Web Services Key.
If you don’t have the account credentials, you have to Open a FedEx Account and Register for FedEx SameDay City.
Note: Enable the Production key if you are using Live FedEx account credentials.
Choose the Ready By Time, Fulfillment Lead Time & Serviceable Days
Ready By Time: This is the time your shipment is available for pickup.
Unlike other FedEx services, the FedEx SameDay City service provides multiple ‘ready by time’ as the order has to be delivered on the same day. So, the app allows you to add multiple ‘ready by time’ to handle the order fulfillment.
Fulfillment Lead Time: This is the time you require to handle the packaging of the product.
Displaying the FedEx SameDay City rates at checkout directly depends upon the ‘Ready by’ time, and the Fulfillment Lead Time. When a customer places the order, if the Fulfillment Lead Time along with the current time (time at which the customer places the order) exceeds the last available ‘ready by’ time, the FedEx SameDay City services won’t be shown at Shopify checkout.
When you generate the label for the FedEx SameDay City orders, the ‘Ready by’ time is automatically set as the next available time.
Ideally, the merchant won’t generate the label after the ‘ready by’ time. But, if the label is generated, the ‘ready by’ time is automatically set as the Fulfillment Lead Time along with the current time (time at which the label is being generated).
Serviceable Days: This indicates the company’s working days. If the customer places the order on the non-serviceable days, the FedEx SameDay City rates won’t be displayed at checkout.
Schedule Shipment to the Next Working Day: You can enable this option if you want to display FedEx SameDay City rates at checkout even after the ‘ready by’ time or on a non-serviceable day.
For example, you have set up the ‘ready by time’ as 9 am, 1 pm, 5 pm and the Fulfillment Lead Time is 60 minutes. Now, if you get an order at 4:30 pm, the order can’t be processed as the Fulfillment Lead Time is 60 minutes. So, the FedEx SameDay City services won’t be shown at checkout.
But, if you schedule the shipment to next working day, the FedEx SameDay City services will be displayed at checkout as the ‘ready by’ time will be set as the first option available on the next working day.
Print Label Size: For FedEx Same Day city you need to choose the print label size as PAPER_4X6 or PAPER_4X8 from the drop-down:
Select the Markets to which you want to offer SameDay City Service
Add the markets to which you will ship using the FedEx SameDay City service. In the above example, the markets configured are Atlanta, Southern California, San Fransico and Washington DC. Each market includes multiple cities. For example, South California includes cities like Los Angeles and Santa Monica.
To know more about the markets and cities, visit FedEx SameDay City locations.
FedEx SameDay City Service Selection and Rates Adjustment
Head to Settings -> Rates section. You can enable the FedEx SameDay City services to display at Shopify checkout.
You can choose the display names of the services to show at the Shopify checkout page.
Control what you charge for the FedEx services if required. As a default, your SameDay City rates will automatically pass through. You can change what you charge your customers depending on your business needs. This value can be a fixed amount or a percentage value. For example, if you want to add $5 to the FedEx SameDay City Priority service, simply add $5 under the adjustment value. Similarly, if you want to add 5% extra charge for any of the services, you can add it under the Adjustment (%). Conversely, you can reduce the amount you are charging.
Parcel Packing Methods
Head to Settings -> Packaging. Here, you can set up how your products should be packed.
Weight-Based packing along with Volumetric Weight is the recommended packaging method if your products don’t require complex dimensional configuration.
In this method, the products are packed based on their weight. You can set a Max Weight, which is the maximum weight limit that can be packed in a box. If the weight exceeds the Max Weight, a new box will be created.
Also, there are other packing options that are based on product quantity and dimensional weight. You can check out the different packaging methods in the Shopify Ship, Rate and Track for FedEx and set it up based on your business requirement.
Display FedEx SameDay City Rates at Shopify Checkout
The “Ship To” markets configured in the previous section are Atlanta, Southern California, San Francisco, and Washington DC. So, for these cities, the app will display the FedEx SameDay City Rates at checkout.
Here, the address entered is of Los Angeles, which is a city under Southern California. So, the app displays the FedEx SameDay City rates.
Note: Make sure that the SameDay City is supported for the address entered at checkout.
Print FedEx SameDay City Labels for Each Order Individually
To generate FedEx SameDay City labels for each order, go to the order details under the Shopify Orders Page. Under “More Actions”, click on Generate Label. This will direct to the Label generation page.
Select the origin address from the list: The app selects the default location as the origin address. You have to select the origin address corresponding to the shipping address for the FedEx SameDay City service to work.
Select the address type, ie. whether the address is residential or not.
Choose the ‘Ready By’ time: This is the pickup time for the particular order, for the FedEx agent to collect your package.
You can also edit the packaging type if required and enable the signature on delivery option as well.
Change the FedEx SameDay City service selected by the customer if required. Select the service and click on Generate Label.
Print FedEx SameDay City Labels for Orders in Bulk
Generating the shipping labels for all your orders can be done with just a single click. To generate the FedEx SameDay labels in bulk, head to Shopify Orders -> Select the orders -> Auto Generate Label
From the Shipping settings under the app, you can download/print the shipping labels.
In bulk label generation, the origin address corresponding to the shipping address is automatically selected by the app.
The shipping address type is automatically selected and the pickup time is selected based on what you configure under the pickup setup.
The packaging type is automatically configured based on the method you have selected.
If you have enabled the Signature on delivery option for the product, it will be automatically configured while generating the label.
The app generates the label using the FedEx SameDay City service which is selected by the customer at checkout. If the customer doesn’t select the service at checkout, the app automatically selects the cheapest service available.
Here is a sample label for FedEx SameDay City Standard.
Shopify Order Fulfillment Process
Once you generate the FedEx SameDay City labels for your orders, the tracking number is automatically generated by the app, which is sent to the Shopify order details. Then, the order is automatically marked as fulfilled.
The tracking number is included in the Shopify “Order shipped” email, which is sent to the customers. Your customers can easily track the order using the FedEx tracking number.
Now, if your customer visits the Order Status page, they can click on the FedEx tracking number to view the status of their order from the FedEx tracking page.
Shopify FedEx SameDay City Tracking
The Shopify Ship, Rate and Track for FedEx helps you handle the tracking process with ease. Once you generate the labels for these orders, the app provides an option to track these orders.
When you click on the “Track Order” button, it redirects to the FedEx tracking page, where you can see the status of the particular order.
