Shopify FedEx Shipment Tracking and Scheduling Pickups

Shopify is a great platform to sell your products online. Shopify handles the shipping process of the store but only in their higher plans. To handle the shipping process in your Shopify store, you would need to hire a third party service like the Shopify FedEx app that lets you ship your orders to your customers via FedEx services. The app offers live FedEx shipping rates, FedEx shipment tracking, FedEx Freight services, etc. Also, this app helps the store owners to print the shipping labels.

This app provides you an added advantage of handling the shipping process at a lower cost than what Shopify offers. So, it would be better to have a complete understanding of the features of this app. This article covers some of these features and how they can be used to ensure better FedEx shipments. We can also understand some real cases and see how these features come together to help in such cases.

In this article, we will show you how to use FedEx Shipment Tracking and FedEx Pickup features with the Shopify FedEx app with label printing, tracking, and rates. So, without any further delay let us get into it.

What Makes Customers Happy?

In any business, the customer is the king. The growth of any business completely depends on the experience of customers with a particular company. There are many ways to keep your customers happy. This includes calling them regularly and making sure that they are not facing any problems from the product side, replying to the emails regularly, etc. These factors matter for the e-commerce industry as well. The store owners always look for the best options so that they can make their customers happy.

Every store requires a few features which can make the shipping process easy for the store owners. This includes order management, generating labels with ease, scheduling pickups, order tracking, placing an order with cash on delivery, etc. As mentioned, since Shopify provides these features only at a higher plan, the store owners have to go for a third party solution. Now, let us see how these features can be fulfilled using the Shopify FedEx app.

Scheduling Pickup Using the Shopify FedEx app

For scheduling the FedEx pickup, the label for the particular order has to be generated. To know how to generate the label for Shopify orders in detail, kindly visit the label generation page.

After the label for the order has been generated, you have to set up the pickup settings. Under “Settings” of the Shopify FedEx app, go to the “Pickup” tab. This includes the pickup related settings for your store.

Scheduling pickups

  • Pickup Start Time – This is the time after which FedEx can provide pickup for the packages.
  • Company Close Time – This shows the time after which FedEx cannot provide pickup for the packages.
  • Pickup Service –  You can choose from various FedEx pickup services.
  • Pickup Address – The address of the store from where FedEx can pick up your packages.

FedEx picks up your package according to the time you have set in the settings. For example, if you have given the “Pickup start time” as 9 AM and the “Company close time” as 6 PM, then the pickup will happen between this time interval. Also, you can select “Pickup service”.

FedEx Pickup Services

  1. FedEx Same Day – Pickup and delivery will be done on the same day within the closing time.
  2. FedEx Same Day City – This offers you three options.
Priority: Pickup and delivery will be done within two hours, depending on the distance.
Standard: Pickup and delivery will be done within four hours depending on the distance.
Economy: Pickup and delivery will be done by the end of the day.
  3. FedEx Distance Deferred – FedEx special service available only in the UK. This includes urgent and non-urgent pickup and delivery. For urgent shipments, pickup and delivery will be done by the next day. For non-urgent shipments, pickup and delivery will be done within 2-3 days.
  4. FedEx Next Day Early Morning – Pickup and delivery will be done by the next day in the early morning.
  5. FedEx Next Day Freight – Pickup and delivery by the next business day around 9 or 10:30 a.m. to most primary service area ZIP codes. To know more about this service, kindly visit the FedEx freight service page.

After the pickup settings have been set up, you can request for the FedEx pickup. To request the FedEx pickup for your orders directly from your Shopify store, follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to the “Shipping” section in the Shopify FedEx app. You will see a list of orders for which shipping labels have been generated.

Step 2: Select the order(s) for which you want to request the FedEx pickup.

Step 3: Click on “Request Pickup” to initiate FedEx pickup request.

The page will redirect to the pickup status page.

Placing Orders with COD Option

COD means “Cash on delivery” or “Collect on delivery”. This can be easily done in your Shopify store. Follow these steps to enable COD option in your store using Shopify FedEx app.

Step 1: Go to the Shopify store dashboard and click on the Settings option, which will be at the bottom of the page. After doing this, you can see a list of settings option. Go to the “Payment Provider” settings.

Step 2: Under the payment provider settings, you can see the “Manual Payments” option. You can select the “Cash on Delivery” method from the dropdown list. Select and activate the COD method.

Step 3: The Shopify FedEx app will support all the COD orders once you have enabled the COD method of payment in your Shopify store settings. Now, go to the Shopify FedEx app settings and click on the “Account” tab. You can see the option “COD Collection type“. This is the medium through which the cash is collected.

Step 4: You can see a list of mediums in the dropdown list which includes “Any”, “Cash”, “Company Check”, “Guaranteed Funds”, and “Personal Check”. For domestic shipping in India, the COD collection type should be “Cash” as most of the stores accept only cash during COD delivery. For domestic shipping outside India, you can give the required collection type. If you give “Any”, then you will have to accept the cash through any of the collection types listed here.

Step 5: Go to your store, place an order, select the shipping service and go to the payment method page. You can see the cash on delivery option enabled on the payment methods. You can place your order using this method.

Tracking the Orders Using Shopify FedEx App

Assume that a customer ordered a product from your Shopify store. You would see the order in the “Orders” section of your Shopify store under the dashboard. Now, follow this step to send the tracking id to the customer.

Step: Once the order has been placed by the customer, you have to fulfill the order, ie. create a shipping label, schedule the pickup, and send the package. First, you have to create the label for the order. Once the label is generated, the customer will get an email from Shopify, which will contain the tracking number for the order. A sample email from Shopify is shown below.

  • In the email, the customer will have the option to “View your order“. When the customer clicks on this option, it will redirect to the order page on which the customer has placed the order. This page will contain the tracking id for the order that was placed.

  • Now, the customer can go to the “FedEx tracking” page, enter the tracking id and track the package. Take a look at a sample tracking info.
