The WooCommerce Shipping Plugin for FedEx is an amazing plugin with some outstanding features. Some of the highly-appreciated features are real-time rates, print shipping labels, change box packing methods, and many more. And yet again with the latest version, the plugin offers a better shipping experience and a promising new feature. In this article, we will cover the latest alcohol support feature, the new improvements, and some necessary bug fixes in the latest version of the plugin. Following is the changelog in version 4.0.3.

Changelog –

  1. Alcohol support for shipping at the product variation level
  2. Option to add the product insurance amount at the product variation level
  3. Option to select accessibility and regulations at product variation level for the dangerous products
  4. Compatible with multivendor plugins to send the label to the respective vendors
  5. The estimated delivery format changed to the default WordPress format

Let us quickly check the above-mentioned features in detail.

Alcohol support for shipping at the product variation level

FedEx facilitates shop owners to deliver alcohol to both domestic and international destinations. And a highly requested feature from many of our existing and new customers, we have added this feature. The Plugin now allows users to define a certain item as alcohol and print the shipping label for the same. They can further choose to select the recipient type directly from the product variation level as shown in the image below.

choose the recipient

As you can see in the above screenshot of the product page, you have the option to choose the alcohol recipient. You can either choose the recipient as CONSUMER or LICENSEE. So, if you want to ship an alcohol product suitable only for a general consumer then you have to select the first option. However, you should follow the following guidelines before shipping an alcohol item via FedEx.

The next thing that FedEx will require is the shipping label signifying that the package contains alcohol. This is where our plugin will help you out. In the image shown below, you can see how the shipping label looks with the alcohol information.

Moreover, you need to choose the Delivery Signature as Adult. This is required for the final delivery of the package. This way the parcel cannot be dropped off at an address unless someone over 21, with necessary identification, signs for it.

Option to add the product insurance amount at the product variation level

As you already know, FedEx does not reimburse for damaged products based on the sales price. They only reimburse based on the cost to replace the product (i.e. manufacturing cost, which is $325). FedEx has also mentioned this clause in its terms and conditions. By using our plugin a store owner can easily define the manufacturing insurance amount for any product.

Have a look at the following image that shows the area to add the insurance amount.

Option to select accessibility and regulations at product variation level for the dangerous products

If you want to sell items that qualify as dangerous goods then you can easily define that in the plugin settings. You would find the following options under the product variation section.

fedex dangerous

As you can see in the above image, you have to option to choose the regulation type. Here, you have four options – ADR, DOT, IATA, and the ORMD.

ADR – It is the European agreement that concerns the international carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road.

DOT – This is the United States Department of Transportation that has the primary responsibility for overseeing the transportation in commerce of hazardous materials, commonly referred as “HazMats”.

IATA – Stands for International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods.

ORMD – This is the full form of Other Regulated Materials for Domestic transport only.

The other option allows you to choose the accessibility type. There are two options to choose from:

ACCESSIBLE – This option will tell FedEx that the Dangerous Goods shipments must be accessible to the flight crew in-flight.

INACCESSIBLE – This option once enabled will tell FedEx that the Inaccessible Dangerous Goods (IDG) do not need to e loaded so they are accessible to the flight crew in-flight.

Compatible with multivendor plugins to send labels to the respective vendors

This is another one of the highly requested features that really serves the purpose. If your business handles products from different vendors then with a multi-vendor plugin you can send the shipping labels directly to the vendors. This way they can further go ahead and separately print the shipping labels for their orders.

You can refer to Send WooCommerce shipping labels to vendors to see how this can be done along with the FedEx Shipping plugin.

The estimated delivery format changed to the default WordPress format

For quite a while, many of our customers have been asking for the default estimated delivery date format. We have finally changed the format to the WordPress default. This will be really useful as this format is universal and applicable to all WooCommerce-based stores. You can also refer to the following image to see what the date format looks like.

Finally, we have fixed all the little bugs and some compatibility issues which was earlier present in the plugin. Here is the list of all the issues fixed in this version[4.0.3] of the WooCommerece FedEx Shipping Plugin.
