Attach UPS MRN (Movement Reference Number) with WooCommerce Order

In this guide, we are going to show you how the WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin helps users to print labels including MRN(Movement Reference Number). We will take a real-life example to show you how it’s done.

UPS MRN – Movement Reference Number

The MRN – Movement Reference Number is the customs registration number that enables the customs authority to identify and process the export packages in the Atlas customs system. It’s the main reference for customs declaration and the most important link with your export items.

Atlas electronic processing of export shipments with a value exceeding 1,000 € will be compulsory for all exports to third countries. The export declaration for these export commodities must be sent to the customs authorities in electronic form.

In return, you will receive an Export Accompanying Document in PDF format with an MRN number and a barcode. The export process is considered to have been completed when your goods are at the customs office at the European Union border.

One of our customers wanted to ship from Germany to other parts of the world. He had a query regarding the MRN number and its applicability to our WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin. Let’s check out his query.

We are sending parcels from Germany to countries all over the world. By law, we are required to enter a so-called Movement Reference Number for certain orders exceeding 1000 EUR. For now, we have to do the label generation outside of the shop for those orders manually. This is not only time consuming but also the shop then is lacking certain important data needed for things like proof of delivery. (e.g the specific tracking id of those orders). Does your plugin support the MRN number?

Solution using WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin

Our WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin is capable of letting users print the MRN number on the UPS labels. To get the MRN number, you have to visit (https://ups.znet-group.com/) which is a branch of UPS shipping that deals with ATLAS, a German shipping software. You will have to create and register the shipment here which will generate a unique MRN number.

Once you have the MRN number, you can copy and paste it under the Edit order details section for the orders having a declared value equal to or more than 1,000 €. Please note that you don’t have to enable any option You can then print the UPS shipping label with the entered MRN number. Refer to the image below.

What is UPS Shipment Receipt?

The Shipment Receipt is an important document and is used in various instances based on the terms the buyer and seller agreed upon prior to the final shipment.

Shipping terms are a critical factor in a sales transaction as they specify not only who is responsible for costs but also who has liability for the goods during transit.

You can easily download the receipt by visiting your UPS account -> Shipping History -> Show Detail/Receipt (for selected Shipments) -> View/Print Receipt, as shown below.

The UPS Shipment Receipt, in this case, is also required for return shipments. For practical purposes, store owners have to print two copies of the Shipment Receipt for the shipments that are insured. Both copies should be signed by the UPS delivery agent at the time of pickup. Where one of the copies is taken by the agent and the other is left with the sender.
