Measurement Price Calculator Plugin

In this article, you are going to see how the WooCommerce Shipping Plugin for FedEx with Print Label is integrated with the Measurement Price Calculator extension. You will also see how this plugin integration will ultimately help your own business needs.

Ever since WooCommerce first appeared, many business owners have been drawn toward this eCommerce platform. Since then store owners have been appreciating its ability to adapt according to different business scenarios. You can also include additional functionalities through various plugin integrations. We all know that selling products like toys or phones is very easy with WooCommerce. This eCommerce platform allows you to sell these items based on the number of quantities. However, the problem arises when there are products that aren’t sold in quantities like, 1,2,3.. and so on. Items such as a pack of rice, wooden blocks, and clothing items, require a calculation based on their dimensions, area, volume, or weight.

The WooCommerce Measurement Price Calculator extension allows store owners to configure the price calculator based on the above parameters. By using this plugin you can easily sell products that have a known measurement per item. Moreover, customers can enter their desired parameters and pay for them. You can further choose a shipping service like FedEx in order to deliver the item to the customer.

What is a Measurement Price Calculator Plugin?

This is a well-organized plugin that allows you to add two different types of price calculators – Quantity and User-defined. The Quantity based price calculator will enable the listing of the items that are sold per unit with a pre-defined measurement. For example, wooden planks with a pre-defined area per unit square.

User-defined price calculators, on the other hand, will show the prices by the foot, square meter, volume, cubic yard, etc and customers can define their own measurements. The second price calculator is quite common for businesses that deal with fabrics.

Integration of the WooCommerce FedEx Shipping with the Measurement Price Calculator Plugin

There has been an increase in the demand for support for this plugin. From version 4.0.4, the WooCommerce FedEx plugin has been modified and made compatible with the Measurement Price Calculator plugin for WooCommerce. Now, once you have installed this extension, you need to go to the Configure option of the plugin. The settings page would look something like as shown in the following image.

General Settings

Here, you need to choose the measurement units which would include the Weight, Dimensions, Area, and Volume. As you can see, we have gone with the lbs and inches.

In order to modify the products, you need to go to the individual Edit Products pages of the products that you want to provide measurement pricing. Now, if you go to the Edit Product page, you will find the Measurement tab in the Product Data section.

Calculated Price

As you can see in the image above, you have the option to choose the Measurement type. As an example, we have chosen the measurement type as Area. So, the plugin will take the length and width of the product and calculate the area accordingly. Now, if you have already defined the area of the product in the Shipping tab section then the plugin will directly take that value. Refer to the following image.

Product Page Settings

Going back to the previous image, once you have enabled the Calculated Price option, the plugin will enable the User-defined price mode.

Measurement Settings

In this mode, the plugin will display the area to enter the custom measurement value in the field. This way a customer can easily choose the required amount of product. You can further decide whether the price will be calculated based on the weight or inventory. Now, if you go to the product page then you will see something like the following.

How does the Measurement Price Calculator plugin work along with WooCommerce FedEx Plugin?

As you can see in the video, if a customer enters the desired dimensions then the plugin will take that value. It will further pass on these dimensions to the WooCommerce FedEx plugin and the shipping rates will be calculated accordingly. Moreover, if you have defined the measurement calculation based on the Volume(LxWxH), the plugin will take three separate values of length, width, and height. It will further calculate the shipping rates based on these values.

Now if you go to the Edit Order page, then you will find that the package has the same weight and dimension as shown in the Debug Request.
