This guide explains FedEx One Rate shipping and how you can handle FedEx One Rate shipping in your store using the Shopify FedEx Shipping app “PH Ship, Rate, and Track“.

What is FedEx One Rate?

FedEx One Rate is a flat rate shipping that is shipped in specified FedEx packaging. This eliminates the need to weigh your packages, making the shipping process faster. It is available within the US for shipments using the Express U.S. domestic services only.

Note:
Intra-Hawaii shipments are not allowed for FedEx One Rate

What services support FedEx One Rate?

FedEx One Rate is not supported for all FedEx shipping services. The services that support FedEx One Rate are given below:

  • FedEx Express Saver
  • FedEx 2Day
  • FedEx 2Day A.M
  • FedEx Standard Overnight
  • FedEx Priority Overnight
  • FedEx First Overnight

Add FedEx One Rate Within the Shopify

The PH Ship, Rate, and Track App for Shopify allows you to handle FedEx One Rate seamlessly and in a simpler way. Follow the below steps to handle FedEx One Rate with the app.

FedEx One Rate with FedEx Boxes

Head to App settings > Auto Settings > Forward Label > Enable FedEx One Rate, as shown below:

FedEx One Rate works only with box packing, so you need to ensure that the packaging process selected is Box Packing. This packaging method allows you to choose different FedEx boxes.

Head to Settings > Packaging Settings > Packing method > Select Box Packing, as shown below:

Once you select Box packing, you need to enable the FedEx boxes that will be available under the packaging section as shown below:

FedEx One Rate with Your Packaging

If you want to use FedEx One Rate with your packaging follow the steps below:

To use your boxes with FedEx One Rate, their weight and dimensions need to fall within the dimensions of the official FedEx One Rate boxes.

  • FedEx Envelopes – Dimensions and Maximum Volume
    • 9-1/2″ x 12-1/2″
      Reusable Envelope: 9-1/2″ x 15-1/2″
      Padded Envelope: 9-3/4” x 11-1/2”
      Maximum volume 300 cubic inches
  • FedEx Pak – Dimensions and Maximum Volume
    • 10-1/4″ x 12-3/4″, 12″ x 15-1/2″
      Padded: 11-3/4″ x 14-3/4″
      Reusable Sturdy Pak: 10″ x 14‑1/2″
      Maximum volume 650 cubic inches
  • FedEx Tube – Dimensions and Maximum Volume
    • 6″ x 6″ x 38″
      Maximum volume 2,200 cubic inches
  • FedEx Small Box – Dimensions and Maximum Volume
    • 10-7/8″ x 1-1/2″ x 12-3/8″
      8-3/4″ x 2-5/8″ x 11-1/4″
      Maximum volume 420 cubic inches
  • FedEx Medium Box – Dimensions and Maximum Volume
    • 11-1/2″ x 2-3/8″ x 13-1/4″

After enabling the FedEx One Rate option, you can create your own boxes and provide the box dimensions (inner & outer) and weight (box weight & maximum capacity) as shown below:

Now enable the Set Corresponding One Rate Box option under the FedEx One Rate Settings. Based on the dimension and weight of your box, the corresponding One Rate Boxes will be listed in the options as shown below.

The Shopify FedEx Shipping app also automatically calculates the volume when the box size is increased or decreased. In the image below when the box size is increased the volume automatically increases.

Display shipping rates at Shopify checkout based on FedEx One Rate

Once you have enabled FedEx One Rate, add a product to the cart, and proceed to checkout. You will be able to see the FedEx services at checkout as shown below.

As you can notice, there is a clear difference in the shipping cost for different FedEx services.

How is the shipping cost calculated for FedEx One Rate Shipping?

FedEx One Rate is a single-package service. You will be able to ship your products in a single package up to the allowed weight limit.

For shipments exceeding a single package, the FedEx One Rate won’t apply. However, you can still leverage FedEx’s standard shipping rates, which offer a variety of options based on weight, dimension, and destination.

For FedEx Envelopes:
For weights up to 10 lbs, all the products will be packed in a single envelope. For weights above 10 lbs, the shipping will be calculated based on FedEx Standard Rates.

For all other Packages:
For weights up to 50 lbs, all products will be packed in a single box. Above 50 lbs, the shipping will be calculated based on FedEx Standard Rates.
