Solution using WooCommerce UPS Shipping Plugin

Selecting the packing method is one of the must-have features of any shipping plugin, WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin is capable of allowing users to pack a product into multiple packages. This includes creating custom boxes and see if the boxes are being packed perfectly.

Coming to the business case, the WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin does support packing a product into multiple packages. To do this, you need to divide one product into multiple units and then ship them. This can be fulfilled with the “Add more shipping fields addon” using which you can divide a product’s weight and dimensions, such that it will be considered as multiple units of the same product. Follow the steps below to set up the product with multiple weights and dimensions.

• Install the Add More Shipping Fields Add-on
• Activate the plugin and visit the product page for which you want multiple packages
• Click on Edit Product and under Shipping Tab, you can see the weight and dimensions of the product that you have entered
• Click on Add More Dimensions and enter the weight and dimensions of the products that are going to ship together, as shown in the image below

The WooCommerce UPS Shipping plugin will automatically select the boxes based on the weight and dimensions of all the products that are available in the cart.

Once the order is placed, you can see this information under the ‘Packages‘ section before you confirm the order. If you want to make any modifications to the package weight and dimensions, you can easily do that from the order confirmation page.

You can also create custom boxes using the WooCommerce UPS shipping plugin. Head to WooCommerce settings < Shipping < UPS. At the bottom, you can find the option to add a custom box.

Now, to test what boxes are going to be sent to UPS without actually completing orders, you can enable the “Debug” mode under the WooCommerce UPS plugin’s settings.

Once you enable the debug mode, you can see the request which contains the custom box dimensions at the checkout page. So, for the custom box which is shown in the above image, the request will be shown at the checkout as shown below:

Note: Enabling the Debug mode is only for testing. In this case, Debug mode is enabled to test what boxes are going to be sent to UPS without actually completing orders. Once you have confirmed this, please disable the Debug mode.

You can see that the custom box dimensions are the same as in the request displayed on the checkout page. Also, once the order is placed, you can see the box dimensions on the WooCommerce order page.
